Welcome to Health Data Space Utrecht, the portal that connects the Utrecht region by bringing together researchers and professionals to share knowledge and data.
UMC Utrecht is the initiator of Health Data Space Utrecht (HDSU)one of eight regional hubs in the Netherlands. Together, these hubs form the national Health-RI-initiatief.
HDSU operates in accordance with the European Health Data Space (EHDS) to make healthcare data reusable and accessible in the Utrecht region. The goal is to use this data securely for research, policy, and innovation, thereby contributing to a learning healthcare system.
In addition, expanding capabilities are making it possible to extend scientific research into areas that were previously difficult to access. For example, HDSU can help track patient pathways through the Dutch healthcare system. This provides new insights into, among other things, preventive interventions, long-term effectiveness, side effects, life expectancy, and the quality of life associated with medical interventions.
Our primary services at HDSU is to facilitate access to valuable regional health data from participating healthcare institutions. This allows researchers to quickly find the information relevant to their projects.
In the future, HDSU will continue to expand its services. We aim to be a comprehensive support environment to provide, including training courses and a comprehensive knowledge base, so that users can make the most of the available health data.
In addition, there will be a data analysis environment where researchers can safely conduct analyses using the collected data. At HDSU, we believe in personal support: Our support desk is ready to answer questions, offer guidance, and provide technical assistance. Together, we’ll work on innovation and progress within the Utrecht region.

The HDSU-catalogue was created to provide an overview of research projects using health data from the Utrecht region. The HDSU catalog contains metadata about these research projects and their associated datasets. Adding a research project to the HDSU catalog is a simple way to comply with European legislation on health data and increases the visibility of a research project within the scientific community.
The metadata in the HDSU catalog is stored in a standardized format, which supports the principles of FAIR data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
The HDSU-catalogue is Molgenis based. Molgenis is an open-source data platform for researchers, including a data catalog solution.
